Luci Pina

Based in Leeds, UK
A research driven practice that looks at the intersections between music, black identity and cultural heritage - carefully and attentively stitching together the personal, the sentimental, the spiritual and the ancestral.
In both personal and commercial contexts, archival material (photographs, old passports, notes, newspaper cutouts, documentary footage and film) is used to inform the work’s visual language, characters, colour choices and tone; the references  intuitively combined to illustrate images whose narratives and visual nature become hybrid in process.
Through drawing playfully and instinctively, the imagined emerges and intersects with the observed.
In this dynamic vortex, discovery and alchemy occur and stories almost draw themselves.
